Artist of the month.
This outreach opportunity enables artists, near and far, to share their craft with the local community through our non-profit creative arts center and gallery. Sponsored by VECCA, the Artist of the Month shares a solo or group art exhibition for one month at a time. VECCA is particularly interested in promoting non-member artists; as well as emerging artists of all age and medium. Take a look at up and coming shows.
JANUARY ARTIST OF THE MONTH: Katie Kwiatkowski
Katie Kwiatkowski is an artist and art educator living in Woodstock, Virginia. Through her mixed media artwork and collaged paintings, she explores a variety of subject matter that most often includes imagery of animals, landscapes, and meditative themes. There is an emphasis in her work on color, texture, and pattern, created through alternated layers of paper, paint, and mark-making. Meet the artist at an opening reception on Saturday, January 13th, 4-6 p.m. Experience the show, "Between the Layers: Explorations in Mixed Media," throughout January during gallery hours: Wed-Fri, 5-7 p.m. / Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. / Sundays, 12-3 p.m. at 123 S Main Street, Woodstock VA. |
FEBRUARY ARTIST OF THE MONTH: Celebrating the Work of Annette Izac (1933-2013), this in memoriam exhibition includes a variety of paintings by a Virginian acrylic and collage artist. Working several hours every day on her painting, Izac strove to become a professional artist. Her family shares the work she created - come celebrate art and the impact of past artists that have been a part of your life.
Hear about the life of Annette Izac at an opening reception on Sunday, February 11, 1-3 p.m. (This date was chosen by the family, because it was the birthdate of the artist.) |
MARCH ARTIST OF THE MONTH: Gary Grant is up as our AOM for March with an exquisite array of watercolors and pastels. His installation “Rust in the Valley: Unexpected Beauty” features a deeper hidden beauty found in the realm of the forgotten. Grant's series explores the idea of entropy as a slow-motion kinetic force, reshaping objects, places and perspective via watercolor.

The main AOM wall, with dimensions.
All AOM artists use this as the main space for exhibiting their artwork. There is a shelf that allows for business cards, an artist bio with show description, and a sign-in book for visitors. If you have notecards or small artwork on easels, this space can also be used for those creations. In addition, VECCA offers an art rack that can be used for prints.
In addition to the main wall space, VECCA also offers the window shelf, two large easels that stand in the window cavity, and the window wall for use by the AOM artists. Measurements are provided above. AOM artists are also invited to use VECCA's easels or bring their own, as well as to incorporate unique or seasonal window display items (such as colorful scarves or media-related items that would be on exhibition throughout the AOM month chosen).
