little free libraries.
VECCA is proud to be the sponsoring organization for a local scout's Eagle project for Shenandoah County, VA in the late summer and fall of 2023. Joseph Kohrs of Conicville, Virginia, chose to coordinate, build, and install five Little Free Libraries located in several town parks around Shenandoah County, Virginia.
"I love reading and I love libraries," Joseph shares. As an early reader who enjoyed taking books to these same local parks as a child, Joseph wanted to encourage that love of books in other children, too.
Each library was decorated by a local VECCA artist.
New Market Little Free Library
Thanks to Annalise Kiser, who painted the mountain and valley landscapes and life-like insects.
Mt Jackson Little Free Library
Thanks to Jessica Dellinger, whose painted design features the renowned Meem's Bottom Covered Bridge and encouraging quotes.
Edinburg Little Free Library
Thank you, Stevie Watkins, whose design captures the fluid beauty of sunflowers against a blue sky.
Woodstock Little Free Library (at W.O. Riley Park)
Thanks to Billy Smelser for the colorful and creative abstract design work that inspires imaginations.
Seven Bends State Park
Thank you, August Hoerr, for the elaborate, fable-inspired paintings certain to spark the imaginative play of children that visit the park.
Each Little Free Library harbors books designed to encourage literacy for children, aged 5 to 12. If you are interested in donating gently used or new books for that reading level, please contact VECCA at VECCArts@gmail.com.
