Community Art Show sponsored by VECCA

This show is open to art that features any of the elements: earth, air, fire, and water, openly interpreted and including cultures that have more than four elements, such as wood (China) and aether (Greece).  You can interpret this literally or symbolically, in representational art or abstraction. We are looking for a wide range of creative and interesting work!

On the application, you will need to provide an image of your work (an in-progress picture of it is okay!) along with the title, artist, and medium. This is a juried show, and participants will be notified by of acceptance after submission deadline is closed.

ALL ARTWORK MUST ARRIVE AT THE GALLERY READY TO HANG OR DISPLAY. Details below.
Some Examples

Art that depicts the elements, say a painting of fire or the ocean, would easily fit the theme, but you might also consider the way that elements interact with art.  A ceramic piece starts with clay (earth), is shaped at the wheel (water), dried (air) and finished in a kiln (fire).  Natural pigments are from the earth.  Manipulating the drying process of a piece can involve water and air.  Be creative!

Artists to check out for inspiration:

Lee Bae, J.M.W. Turner, Alison Holt, Edvard Munch, Steven Spazuk, Yves Klein, Brie Ruais, Sigmar Polke, Yazuo Mizui, David Hockney, Maya Lin.
