The coffelt student art show
The Coffelt Student Art Show began in coordination with the Shenandoah County Public Schools as a way to select artwork to represent Shenandoah County at the Virginia School Board Association Spring Art Show, whose requirements include selection by a panel of judges. In 2000, it was one of six judged shows managed by VECCA volunteers at the Shenandoah County Government Building. For two decades, Cregg and Sandy Coffelt, who retired from the Woodstock Gallery and Frame Shoppe in 2019, donated art supplies to the winning middle and high school artists in the Student Art Show. As a way to honor their commitment to supporting the creative arts, the same year, VECCA's board members voted to rename the exhibition in honor of the Coffelts.
The top winning public school art pieces at the elementary, middle, and high school levels continue to the VSBA Spring Art Show. The next opportunity for a call for art from public, private, and home schooled art educators will be in Fall 2023. Congratulations to our participating young artists! VECCA received approximately 40 pieces of art for the 2023 Coffelt Student Art Show, which was installed at 123 S Main Street, Woodstock VA, during the month of January. The top artwork in each grade level (High School, Middle School, and Elementary School) will continue to the VSBA Spring Art Show as representation of Shenandoah County. Congratulations, Amy, Caitlin, and Lauren; and to the community-selected People's Choice Award winner, Isaac.
And a special thank you to our educators for supporting this endeavor.
