Celebrating Queer Artists

Overview

PFLAG Woodstock and VECCA are working together to celebrate LGBTQ+ history month in October. The show will highlight LGBTQ+ artists and their works as well as anyone who is an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and would like to submit art in celebration of the community’s history month. Fees are being waived to allow a variety of artists to come forward this month. There are limited spaces depending on the size of the pieces submitted, but additional art prints are encouraged. You can submit LGBTQ+ themed artwork or art with no specific theme by submitting the piece you are proudest of!

Show Location

Valley Educational Center for the Creative Arts, 123 S Main Street, Woodstock VA 22664.

Entry Deadline & Art Drop-off Date

Deadline for submissions: September 26.

This ENTRY FORM must be filled out and submitted to enter along with any entry fees paid, info below.

Artwork Rules/Restrictions
ALL ARTWORK MUST ARRIVE AT THE GALLERY READY TO HANG OR DISPLAY.

Any 2 or 3-dimensional medium is acceptable, as well as writing and music. Traditional, abstract, and other forms of creative art are encouraged. There are our current guidelines in accordance with previous shows:
  • Nudity should not include visible genitalia or detailed nipples.
  • Avoid recognizable gore and excessive blood. This does not include healed wounds, if, for example, an amputee chooses to depict themselves with a healed but missing limb, or for the purposes of top surgery scars.
  • In accordance with being a 501c3, VECCA cannot “participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements) any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.” At this time, we request that any political symbols be kept to pride flags, and religious symbols not be negatively depicted.

Any 2- or 3-dimensional medium is acceptable; however it must be no larger than 24″x 24″ or a total area of 576″ (or comparable volume) in overall size. If you have artwork larger than that please let us know ahead of time. We don’t want to turn away any epic pieces, but just need to account for space. Traditional, abstract, and any other form of art is encouraged – however, since VECCA-sponsored shows are open to the public of all ages, artwork images must be family-friendly.

There are also four spaces available for Demo Days in October– each Saturday, we would like to host an artist demonstrating their process in front of VECCA. Once again, for this month, the demo day fee has been waived.
